The Secretariat General of the IEC is organizing a musical composition contest, which will decide the theme song for the celebrations and activities of the Congress. The contest is for the musical setting of lyrics, which will be provided by the IEC in the middle of August 2006 to those who register.
The objectives of the theme song are the following:
- To create a musical identification for the event before, during, and after the Congress.
- To promote communion through the song.
- To dignify and animate the different celebrations and activities.
- To enrich the repertoire of Eucharistic song.
Persons submitting a musical composition ought to bear the following criteria in mind:
- The musical composition must respect the spirit of sacred music and promote the participation of the crowds during large gatherings.
- The work will have:
- Harmonization for four mixed voices suitable for a parish choir.
- Organ accompaniment.
- The musical composition ought to be original and not to have been the object of a previous publication.
- The composer must furnish the complete score, each voice of the choir being written upon a separate staff. The accompaniment for the organ must figure below the vocal parts and be written upon three staves.
The Congress reserves to itself the exclusive use of selected works until the end of the event.

- After this date, the IEC will communicate the written text of the theme song to registered persons.
- The musical work must arrive to the Secretariat of the IEC care of Abbé Louis-André Naud no later than 15 December 2021 .
Prize offered: $2,000
Selection Committee
A selection committee formed by the liturgical service of the IEC and mandated by Archbishop Marc Cardinal Ouellet is responsible for the contest. It will receive the musical works and will make its recommendations to the Archbishop.
Launching of the Theme Song
The committee will work for the launching and publication of the theme song throughout the spring of 2007. The song will also be translated into other languages and published on CD with accompaniment.
