Back to newsJanuary 10th 20082008 IEC official adoration sites
A brief history
The official adoration sites are the fruit of the desire to promote Eucharistic adoration and make it accessible to as many people as possible. As the Pontifical Committee for the International Eucharistic Congresses has put it, “There should be an opportunity for common prayers and extended adoration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed at designated churches which are especially suited to this form of piety.”
The official sites
Eight official locations have been designated as Eucharistic adoration sites during the 2008 IEC:
- Two locations are onsite at ExpoCité—rebaptized Eucharistic City for the week of the IEC—where the key events of the International Eucharistic Congress will take place.
- Six other sites are located in and around Quebec City:
- Église Saint-Sacrement
- Chapelle du Mont Thabor
- Église Saint-Yves
- Chapelle de la Maison Mère-Mallet
- Chapelle du Pavillon Colin
- Église Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc
A number of existing adoration chapels will also be available.
Schedule
The chapels will be open from 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. Certain ones will be open 24/7; others, only a few hours per day.
Adoration procedure
- Eucharistic adoration will begin with an inauguration liturgy on Sunday, June 15, and will end with a closing liturgy on Saturday, June 21.
